Amanda's note about the CATH

Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 2:54 PM PST

I am back in Hang Zhou after spending the weekend in Shanghai.

We did the CATH exam on Tuesday afternoon. It is a small camera at the end of a thin cable that inserted into her main arteries which leads to the heart, where they take pictures. What amazing technology! They warned me that there is a lot of danger and some children die during this procedure. They were in the operating room for a really long time and I was getting so worried. The results showed that her pulmanary tension responded to medication. However, it was just below the borderline, but acceptable enough to do the operation. So the first part of the three stage operation will take place. Now, another waiting period. They acceptable wait is three days for her to recover from the CATH. She was so puffy from all the radiation and since she came back she has been sleeping a lot. She did the cutest thing: When they wheeled her back she was still groggy from the anesthesia and as soon as she saw me she made fish faces.

Dr.Li is hoping that by Friday he can do the operation but we are waiting to see if Susan is fully recovered. I am also hoping for Friday because that means she can start on her road to recovery sooner. Otherwise we have to wait until Monday. She is going to be in the ICU for a week after than and then in the regular ward for another week. I am hoping that we could go back before then, but there is no telling at this point. I am missing the other babies so much and it is really boring here.

Thank you so much for your concern and your prayers on her behalf.

Love and laughter,

Amanda
