Cath Complete! Susan will get her surgeries!!

Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 9:24 AM PST

Dr. Li has let us know that the Cath test was completed today and they have decided to proceed with the three stage heart operation. The first stage will be performed on this Friday or next Monday. Susan is in some discomfort, as the cath test caused some bruising. Her comfort level will determine when this first stage of surgery will be performed.

This first operation will be a shunt put in to reduce her Pulmonary Hypertension (PH). They will litigate her big PDA and perform Pulmonary Artery Banding (PAB). By performing this operation, they hope to reduce her pulmonary pressure. If her PH is down in 3 to 6 months, they will plan the second procedure, the bidirectional Glenn procedure. This procedure will then prepare her for the Fontan procedure.

Because the cost of her heart cath and her first stage heart surgery will be less than the amount of money raised for Susan, we want you to know that we will keep the money in her account for her second surgery.

I will keep you posted as to her progress and when her surgery will be performed.

Thank you so very much for giving Susan a chance. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
Karen Maunu
